01 :: WHO WE ARE

DC21222 is a bunch of local hackers and IT enthusiasts in Casablanca, Morocco — part of the global DEF CON Groups network, the year-round community extension of the world's oldest and largest hacker convention.

We meet to share knowledge, hack on projects, pick some locks, and make the people around us a little more aware of the digital dangers lurking in their daily lives. No gatekeeping. No purity tests. Just curious humans trying to understand how things work — and how they break.

05 :: LANGUAGES SPOKEN

At any given meeting you'll hear some mix of:

ENGLISH

// fluency in at least one recommended, fluency in all four earns you a nickname //

06 :: MISSION

We try to make people aware of IT-related risks
and how dangerous they can really be.

Awareness is the cheapest defense there is. Most of what gets people owned isn't zero-days — it's a phishing email, a bad password, a reused credential, a phone call from "IT." We do workshops, demos, and casual conversations aimed at anyone who'll listen — from total beginners to seasoned sysadmins.

If you want to understand how the bad guys think (so you can stop thinking like a victim), you're in the right place.

07 :: HOW TO JOIN

There's no application. No dues. No hazing. Just show up.

  1. Pick a 2nd Sunday of any month.
  2. Head to Starbucks, Bd Roosevelt, Casablanca.
  3. Look for the table with the laptops, lock-picks, and animated arguing.
  4. Say salam / bonjour / hey.
  5. Welcome in.

Can't make it but want to say hi first? Ping contact@dcgroup21222.org or join the forum thread.

08 :: HANG OUT ONLINE

Between meetings, we keep the signal alive on IRC — the original hacker chat protocol, still going strong since 1988. Real-time, ephemeral, no algorithms, no ads, no data harvesting. The way chat was meant to be.

⚷ INVITE-ONLY CHANNEL

Our channel is locked with mode +i. You can't just walk in — a mod has to /invite you. This keeps out scanners, spambots, and the occasional script kiddie wandering through Libera looking for targets.

The onboarding is quick: register your nick, email us, wait for the invite. Usually same-day.

The Onboarding Flow

1

INSTALL AN IRC CLIENT

Pick whatever fits your setup:

2

CONNECT TO LIBERA.CHAT

Point your client at the network:

Server:   irc.libera.chat
Port: 6697 (TLS — always use TLS)
Nickname: pick one, make it yours
3

REGISTER YOUR NICKNAME

This step is required. We only invite registered nicks — it's how we know you're actually you, and how we stop impersonation. Once connected:

/msg NickServ REGISTER yourpassword your@email.com

Check your email (and spam folder) for a verification code, then:

/msg NickServ VERIFY REGISTER yournick abc123xyz

You'll see "You have now verified..." — you're now a registered operative on Libera.Chat.

4

SET UP SASL (recommended)

SASL auto-identifies you the instant you connect, which means you're cloaked (IP hidden) before anyone even sees you online. It's the right way to do IRC.

Client-specific instructions are in the full IRC guide — see below.

5

REQUEST YOUR INVITE

Email us with your registered nickname and a line or two about yourself. Nothing formal — just enough that we know you're a real human with a genuine interest.

EMAIL
INCLUDE
• Your registered Libera.Chat nickname
• A sentence or two about who you are
• How you heard about DC21222 (optional)
6

WAIT FOR /invite

A mod will fire an /invite in your direction. You'll see a server notice that looks something like:

*** [mod] invites you to #████████

The exact channel name is revealed in the invite, not on this page — a small bit of operational hygiene.

7

JOIN & INTRODUCE YOURSELF

Once you have the invite, join with:

/join #the-channel-name-from-your-invite

Say salam, bonjour, or hey — whichever suits. Read the topic, lurk for a bit, and jump in when something catches your interest.

register · request · receive · /join
